About Us
The Alder Hey Children’s Kidney Fund was founded on 8th March 1968,
by parents and friends.
Back in 1968 there was no specialist renal unit for children, and the
Fund was able to help financially to provide equipment to set up the unit.
At that time dialysis was a relatively new concept and equipment was only
available in ‘adult sizes’. Technicians were employed to adapt
the equipment and dialysis become available for children. Who would have
believed how treatment would have progressed so today children can be
dialysed at home easing pressure on family life.
The availability of dialysis and the possibility of organ transplant
has revolutionised the treatment of children with chronic renal failure,
but there have been so many other developments in both the renal and urology
fields.
From those early days when the charity was established to now, the Alder
Hey Children’s Fund has raised funds to benefit children with renal
and urological disorders.
We hope this continues for many years to come...
